Child Safe Standards
The Victorian Government has announced new Child Safe Standards to further strengthen child safety across organisations, through Ministerial Order 1359 which sets out how the Victorian Child Safe Standards apply in school environments. The new standards recognise the critical importance of families and the broader school community in maintaining and promoting child safety and wellbeing.
All members of our school community have a responsibility to care for children and young people, to positively promote their wellbeing and protect them from any kind of harm or abuse.
The Mount View Primary School Child Safety policies and procedures demonstrate our school’s commitment to creating and maintaining a child safe and child-friendly organisation, where children and young people are safe and feel safe. They inform our school community of everyone’s obligations to act safely and appropriately towards children and guide our processes and practices for the safety and wellbeing of students across all areas of our work.
Volunteers must be familiar with our policies and procedures relating to child safety and understand the important role they play in maintaining and promoting the safety of our students.

At Mount View Primary School, we are committed to creating a safe, inclusive and supportive learning environment for all students. Our School Wide Positive Behaviour (SWPB) framework provides a consistent, whole-school approach to promoting positive behaviour and wellbeing.
SWPB focuses on explicitly teaching and reinforcing our school values across all settings. Students are supported to understand what positive behaviour looks like, sounds like and feels like in the classroom, playground and wider school community.
Our approach includes:
Through SWPB framework, we aim to build a positive school culture where students feel safe, respected and ready to learn. We work in partnership with families to support students in developing the social, emotional and behavioural skills needed for lifelong success.
Respectful Relationships at Mount View Primary School
At Mount View Primary School, we are proud to implement the Respectful Relationships initiative, in line with the Victorian Department of Education. This whole-school approach supports the development of positive relationships, student wellbeing and a safe, inclusive school culture.
Respectful Relationships is embedded within our curriculum and everyday practices. Through explicit teaching, students develop the knowledge, skills and attitudes needed to build healthy relationships, show empathy, manage emotions and resolve conflict positively.
The program focuses on key areas including:
Our staff model respectful interactions and use consistent language to support students in applying these skills in the classroom and playground.
We believe that strong partnerships between school and home are essential. We encourage families to engage with the program and reinforce these important skills beyond the classroom.
Through Respectful Relationships, we aim to empower students to build positive connections and contribute to a respectful and inclusive community.
