Chess

Mount View Primary School has a wonderful reputation in interschool chess tournaments.

The Open chess team has won the Victorian Chess Tournament on four occasions since 2009, while the Girls’ team has also won the state competition on four occasions since 2009.

In addition, the Open team have won the Australian chess competition three times and the girls have won twice.

Chess at Mount View starts with a good instruction and coaching program that is conducted by Chess Education. Skilled chess coaches teach the interested students on Mondays at school, both during lunchtime and after school for an advanced group.

Students from Year 1 to Year 6 are eligible to participate in chess lessons and competitive chess tournaments throughout the year.

A highlight of chess at Mount View is the sporting way in which students play and the friendly manner in which they support their peers.

Innovate Technology and Robotics Academy

Innovate Technology and Robotics Academy’s STEM programs are available exclusively for the students at Mount View Primary School. Students in Grades 1 to 6 can explore and develop their love for STEM subjects through the variety of programs such as Robotics, Game Development, Web and Mobile App Development.

Courses are available for students who are keen in these STEM subjects, love technology and who wish to improve their soft skills such as communication, collaboration, creativity and critical thinking and to prepare to become tech leaders of the future.

Junior programs for Grades 1 and 2 are integrated STEM learning pathways which include coding, robotics, electronics and engineering activities which inspire the younger ones to open up their minds to the way things work and to prepare them for the senior programs when they enter at Grade 3.

Instrumental Music at Mount View Primary School

Mount View Primary School has a vibrant Instrumental Music Program offered in collaboration with external private teachers. Students are withdrawn from class once a week for either an individual or small group music lessons on their chosen instrument. Teachers work closely with the Performing Arts staff to prepare students for school performances and ensembles.
